The Regional Coroner’s office has announced that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Ina Matawapit.
Matawapit, 37, died on June 7, 2012 at the Weagamow Lake Nursing Station following a transfer from a police vehicle while in custody.
The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding her death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018 at the Days Inn in Sioux Lookout.
Dr. Michael Wilson will preside as inquest coroner and Josh McKay and Julian Roy will be counsel to the coroner.
