THUNDER BAY – A popular beverage supplier at Intercity Shopping Centre will not reopen.

DavidsTea on Thursday confirmed 166 Canadian locations, including its Thunder Bay outlet and all 42 south of the border, have been permanently closed as part of a restructuring effort.

"Our stores have been the core of our DAVIDsTEA family since the beginning of our company. Many of you got to know us by walking into one of our tea shops and speaking to our talented & inspiring Tea Guides. We have heard so many stories of your first experiences to your 100th, and everything in between. We absolutely loved being in our stores to share our love of tea with the community we created, together," the company posted on its website.

"But, how customers shop has continued to evolve and we want and need to adapt with you. The new retail landscape has forced us to re-evaluate how we can bring tea to our fans most efficiently."

According to bankruptcy papers, the company lists deficits of $93.2 million combined over the past three years.

They also stopped paying rent to Canadian landlords when COVID-19 hit, owing them a total of $7.2 million, including $31,500 to Intercity Shopping Centre.
