THUNDER BAY - The death of 64-year-old man at the Lac Des Iles Mine is under investigation.
According to an Ontario Provincial Police media release, officers with the Thunder Bay detachment responded to a report of a mining incident on Wednesday just after 3 p.m.
Police say the incident took place at the Impala Mine located on Highway 527 north of Thunder Bay.
A man died as a result of injuries sustained while underground. He has been identified as 64-year-old Edward Gallant of Dunlop, N.B.
The incident is being investigated by the OPP, the Ministry of Labour, and the Regional Coroners Office.
