The 2011 home building season is now wrapped up, and it looks like it was another good year for local construction.

According to figures gathered by Canada Mortgage and Housing, there were eight single-detached home starts in December.

That brought the total number of new homes for the year to 188, which is slightly behind the 204 recorded the year before.

Although 2011 may not have been able to best 2010 numbers, the final housing start statistics are still seen as positive. Data recorded in 2010 was said to be the strongest numbers seen in the Thunder Bay area in recent memory.

The housing starts of 2011 also saw a big jump in multi-unit housing projects, thanks mainly to the 132-bed supportive housing project by St. Joseph's Care Group and a 34-unit apartment complex.
