THUNDER BAY — A court has handed an Ontario man $4,000 in fines, a one-year suspension of hunting privileges and an order to pass a hunter education course.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry says the North Bay-area resident was charged following a moose decoy operation on Highway 811 north of Thunder Bay in October 2017.
The decoy was set up to target unsafe hunting practices.
Court was told that conservation officers saw the man stop his truck and use the driver-side mirror to support his rifle while he shot at the fake animal.
He was convicted for carelessly discharging a firearm down a highway, and for discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
