Despite StatsCan report, local residents still generous: LU professor

A recent study from Statistics Canada shows that Thunder Bay isn’t too generous when it comes to making charitable donations.

A recent study from Statistics Canada shows that Thunder Bay isn’t too generous when it comes to making charitable donations.

The 2010 data shows that Thunder Bay is in the bottom third across the country in terms of average amount donated per person.

However, Economist Livio Di Matteo said those numbers could be a bit deceiving.

“If you rank the data by the percentage of tax filers that make a donation, then Thunder Bay is closer to the top third,” Di Matteo said. “So Thunder Bay is actually quite generous in giving … but the median value of the donation tends to be a bit on the lower side.

According to the Statistics Canada list, Abbotsford has the highest amount donated per person on average, followed by Trois-Rivieres.
