Dew Drop Inn needs food donations

A Thunder Bay soup kitchen is appealing for donations of non-perishable food.

THUNDER BAY -- The shelves are getting bare at the Dew Drop Inn soup kitchen in Thunder Bay.

Executive-director Kathie Terhljan says donations of non-perishable items that were made prior to Christmas have largely been depleted.

"Things are looking a bit sparse these days," she told tbnewswatch.com.

Terhljan said it's typical for those items to run low around this time of year, resulting in the Dew Drop Inn having to seek more donations.

Volunteer Nikki Burns, in a Facebook posting, says items that are needed the most include white sugar, black tea, canned diced, whole or crushed tomatoes, canned baked beans, pinto/romano beans, kidney beans, black beans, kernel corn, tomato sauce (not pasta sauce), cream of chicken and cream of celery soups, canned meats and fish, and juice boxes.

Items may be dropped off at the soup kitchen located near St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church on Red River Road between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

On average, the Dew Drop Inn serves about 200 clients each day.
