THUNDER BAY -- Local author and business man Bob Hoffman says his active imagination makes writing children's book an effortless job.

Hoffman was at Chapters Saturday signing copies of his first published children's book entitled Dinosaurs of Prenaria.

The 84-page science fiction story is about two boys who embark on a journey to a strange island where they discover the secrets behind the dinosaurs' disappearance.

"There's action from the beginning right till the end," Hoffman said. "I wrote this book twenty years ago for my own kids and I've explained everything unknown to mankind in the book."

Hoffman said the idea came to him when his children were young and would refuse to sleep unless they were read a story.

"The book used to be called Dinosaur Island and my son wouldn't go to bed at night without hearing the next chapter of the book," Hoffman said.

"Even if I had friends over, I had to stop what I was doing and make up a chapter from the top of my head so he would go to sleep."

Hoffman runs a small business in Thunder Bay called Natural Pest Control, his experience with insects and animals has helped him create many characters in his books.

Dinosaurs of Prenaria is Hoffman's first published book to date, although he has 12 children's books and two adult science fiction novels in various stages of development.

Hoffman explained the looks on children's faces when they read his books makes it all worthwhile.
