THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay has hit a new vaccination milestone, with half of the overall population having been given at least one COVID-19 shot.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit last week set a new regional record for vaccinations in a week, with 10,959 vaccines administered in the district for the week ending on May 22, 1,958 more than were given the week prior. The district is now at 59 per cent of all residents aged 16 and above having had a vaccination.

A total of 81,298 people living in the district have received a single vaccination dose.

The district is also making good progress in its double-dose chase, giving 2,904 people their second shot last week to bring the regional total to 10.44 per cent.

A total of 14,335 people have been vaccinated with two shots.
