"A minor disturbance took place at the Thunder Bay jail yesterday following an inmate-on-inmate assault," said Brent Ross of the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.

"During the disturbance some small fires were set and minor damage occurred in the unit in question. The unit remains stable. No staff were harmed during the incident and we commend the staff at the institution for their effective response to the situation. At no time was the safety and security of the institution or the public at risk."
