Police arrested a 16-year-old after he drove a car into a ditch during an attempt to flee from officers.

Thunder Bay OPP officers say they spotted the vehicle being driven by the teen in Neebing Township just after noon Tuesday. The officer who spotted the vehicle attempted to pull the driver over.

The driver, however, accelerated and blew through a stop sign as he approached the intersection of Gillespie Road and Highway 61.

Police say the 16-year-old driver slid into the ditch when he approached a corner. The vehicle, driver and passenger escaped the single-vehicle crash without incident.

Police have charged the driver with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from a police officer.

The suspect will appear in provincial court in March 2010 to face the charges against him.
