DNA on balaclava belonged to accused, officer testifies

Testimony at the trial of a man accused in the armed robbery of a Thunder Bay credit union continued Tuesday.

Bradley Tomeck, 22, is facing seven charges, including armed robbery, wearing a disguise, and firearms related offences, in connection with a holdup at the at the Provincial Alliance Credit Union back in January. 

Retired police identification officer Brian Mills was one of the witnesses on the stand Tuesday. Mills was among officers called to the scene the day of the robbery. 

He said he collected several items found along a path the thief took following the incident. 

A balaclava believed to have been worn during the robbery was one of those items. 

Mills testified that DNA analysis indicted Tomeck did have contact with the balaclava. 

A sawed off shot gun that was discovered at the scene was also found to belong to Tomeck's grandfather. 

Tomeck has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges against him. 

The trial is scheduled to run for the rest of the week.
