It's a condition that affects one in every 100 Canadians, and in the past 20-to-30 years there have been major advancements to help treat Rheumatoid Arthritis.
Now, a Thunder Bay doctor wants to see ultrasonography used more often to help diagnose problem areas.
Nancy Johnston has Rheumatoid Arthritis in her left hand and arm. For a while, she didn't know why her arm was numb and why she had limited mobility.
Along with medication, Dr. Irene Vasilui uses ultrasound technology to help track her patient's condition.
It's not new technology, but only half of Canada's Rheumatologists are using it.
Vasilui says there are some barriers in the way of this becoming a common practice in Canada.
Vasilui adds that ultrasonography is particularly useful in finding RA in areas such as feet, which are harder to diagnose.
