Donated wild game added to Shelter House menu (2 Photos)

The homeless shelter can now accept donations from hunters

THUNDER BAY — After receiving a permanent wild game permit for its community kitchen, Shelter House may now accept donations of wild game meat.

Its kitchen is the first in Thunder Bay to receive a permanent permit to serve wild game.

Volunteer coordinator intern Katie Watson and human resources intern Melissa Scholz are credited for hard work over six months to take the kitchen "to the next level," according to a post on the Shelter House Facebook page.

Executive-Director Michelle Jordan said being able to serve wild game gives it a range of new options for the food it can prepare.

She said Indigenous clients, in particular, will welcome the availability of some of their traditional foods.

Jordan said that shortly after Shelter House posted the news on its Facebook page on Monday, it started to receive calls from hunters interested in making donations.
