It looks like the planned wind farm outside Dorion will be the first one in this region to make it to the actual construction phase.
Siemens Energy has announced it's been chosen to deliver 43 wind turbines to Renewable Energy Systems Canada for the Greenwich Wind Farm near Dorion. RES officials held an open house in the community last June and said they hoped to begin erecting the turbines this year.
Dorion Reeve Linda Tolmonen said that timeline has been pushed back following a meeting with the project manager Wednesday night. The windmills will now be set up in Spring 2011.
Work crews have already begun clearing the sites and excavation work for the turbine bases should begin this summer. The 99 megawatt project is expected to cost $300 million dollars and will supply enough energy for about 30,000 homes.
