UPDATED: Double-deck buses catching attention at Thunder Bay Transit (2 Photos)

Eye-catching buses need repairs en route to B.C.

THUNDER BAY —  Thunder Bay Transit has quickly put to rest any speculation it's looking to add another "layer" of service to some of its routes by changing its vehicles.

Two British-manufactured 87-seat double-deck buses that arrived at the Fort William Road transit headquarters over the weekend are just visiting.

They belong to British Columbia's Coast Mountain Bus Company.

Acting Transit Manager Pascal Gauvreau says the buses developed a mechanical issue en route to Vancouver and are awaiting repairs.

Gaurvreau said he understood the heating systems malfunctioned.

A third BC-bound bus which was part of the same convoy was taken to the transit depot property on Monday afternoon.

It was initially left at a local hotel, where the operator had difficulty getting it started.

The transit authority for the greater Vancouver area has ordered 32 twin-deck vehicles.

They are built in the U.K. by ADL Ltd., the biggest manufacturer of double-deck buses in the world.

ADL was purchased earlier this year by NFI Group (formerly New Flyer Industries) of Winnipeg, making NFI the world's largest independent bus maker.
