A 19-year-old male was taken into custody on Wednesday night after an armed robbery at the Cumberland Street Dairy Queen.

According to police, a man entered the store at about 6:50 p.m., brandishing a knife,  and demanded cash. When the clerk behind the counter refused to comply he then allegedly attempted to take the money out of the cash drawer himself.

Instead he got a fistful of pain for his efforts as the clerk slammed the drawer on the accused’s fingers. The suspect was arrested on Cumberland Street a short time afterward.

The 19-year-old has been charged with robbery and assault and is expected to appear in bail court on Thursday morning.
