THUNDER BAY – Starting July 5, residents may notice noise caused by drilling work associated with the renewal of Thunder Bay’s north core.

To minimize disruption to the public and area businesses, the work will take place during working hours Monday to Friday over the next one to two weeks.

The drilling is necessary to install street light bases along redeveloped portions of Red River Road. The decorative street lights also feature pedestrian lighting to illuminate walkways, supporting the City’s plans to make the downtown core more pedestrian-friendly.

The work is part of the North Core Streetscapes project, which will transform streets and sidewalks in the downtown to accommodate more events and space for patios and vendors, while replacing aging underground infrastructure.

Updates and more information on the project are available at the City’s website
