THUNDER BAY — A motorist who had to be extricated from a pickup truck after it crashed upside down on the ice below the Boulevard Lake Dam has been charged with impaired driving.
Thunder Bay police said the incident occurred at Cumberland Street North and Grenville Avenue at about 10:20 p.m. Sunday.
The 41-year-old woman was trapped in the vehicle but was removed by firefighters and turned over to the care of Superior North EMS paramedics.
She was then taken to hospital for further evaluation and treatment of her injuries.
Officers later used an approved screening device to obtain a sample of the driver's breath, which resulted in a failure.
At police headquarters she provided a breath sample, which police said confirmed that she was impaired by alcohol.
The woman has been released from custody with conditions and a date for a future court appearance.
