THUNDER BAY — Police have laid a charge against a Thunder Bay driver after a pickup truck struck an electric standup scooter, knocking the rider to the pavement.
A spokesperson for the TBPS traffic unit said the incident occurred late Sunday morning on Memorial Avenue.
The operator of the eastbound pickup was coming off Second Avenue to turn right onto Memorial.
It came to a full stop, but when the vehicle proceeded forward, it collided with a scooter that simultaneously entered the intersection from the sidewalk.
Superior North EMS paramedics responded to the incident, but injuries to the female rider were described by police as "minor scrapes."
Police charged the driver of the truck under the Highway Traffic Act with starting from a stop position – not in safety.
