THUNDER BAY – A 46-year-old man has been charged in conjunction with a fatal collision last December on the Thunder Bay Expressway.

Ontario Provincial Police on Monday said Thunder Bay’s Leonard Dick faces one count of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Gary Maki, 50, was killed in the collision, which police say occurred when the driver of a northbound SUV crossed the centre line and collided with a southbound pick-up truck. A third vehicle was also struck.

Maki was ejected from his vehicle, taken to hospital and pronounced dead. The driver of the SUV suffered serious injuries and had to be extricated from his vehicle using the jaws of life, while the driver of the third vehicle suffered only minor injuries.

The suspect will appear in court on July 11.
