The driver of an alleged stolen van is facing three charges after a crash Tuesday afternoon.
The man, 27, allegedly stole a blue Chevrolet panel van and struck a 52-year-old male pedestrian on the sidewalk near the provincial courthouse on Camelot Street around 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Police say the driver then swerved on the courthouse lawn, veered sharply to the right and careened over a wall into the Safeway parking lot below.
The van crushed the passenger side roof of a Geo Metro parked at the back side of the lot. Then came to rest on its driver’s side, taking out a fibre optic cable box on its way over.
The man has been charged with theft over $5,000, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.
He appeared in court Wednesday morning.
The pedestrian was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
