(FORT FRANCES, ON) – Officers of the Rainy River District Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged two individuals with criminal impaired driving offences over the weekend.
On September 27, 2015 at 1:13 am, officers stopped a pick-up truck after observing a Highway Traffic Act infraction on the 200 block of Second Street East in Fort Frances.
After speaking with the driver, he was arrested and transported to the Fort Frances Detachment for tests. Subsequently, Michael MURPHY, (age 20) of Fort Frances was charged with Impaired operation and Over 80 mgs as well as several Highway Traffic Act infractions. The vehicle was towed from the scene and held for the mandatory 7 days.
MURPHY first court appearance will be October 26, 2015.
Also on September 27, 2015 at 10:58 pm, officers stopped a motor vehicle on the 1400 block of Colonization Road in Fort Frances after receiving a report of a possible stolen motor vehicle.
After further investigation Faith KAKEEWAY, (age 26) of Fort Frances was charged with Over 80 mgs after she failed the roadside screening device and subsequent Intoxilyzer breath tests, she was also charged with Driving under Suspension. The vehicle was towed and held for the mandatory 7 days. KAKEEWAY first court appearance will be November 23, 2015.
The OPP reminds motorists that operating a vehicle or vessel under the influence of any amount of alcohol is dangerous and jeopardizes your own safety as well as the safety of others.
