Driver in stolen SUV can run, can't hide from police

(MARATHON, ON) –On Thursday June 2, 2016 at approximately 10:05 a.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Schreiber detachment conducted a traffic stop at Highway 17, Town of Terrace Bay, to investigate a report of theft.

(MARATHON, ON) –On Thursday June 2, 2016 at approximately 10:05 a.m. members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Schreiber detachment conducted a traffic stop at Highway 17, Town of Terrace Bay, to investigate a report of theft.  The male driver was spoken to briefly by officers and then fled east bound from the scene of the stop.

At 5:35 p.m. officers of the Marathon detachment located the suspect vehicle at Highway 17, Coldwell Township and the driver fled from police. 

Officers observed the suspect vehicle, a newer model Lincoln SUV, turn off of the highway onto a side road where the vehicle stopped. 

The driver was taken into custody without further incident. Investigation determined that the vehicle was stolen.

A 43-year-old Kelowna, BC, man has been charged with Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer (two counts), Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Theft Under $5000, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, and Fail to Comply with a Probation Order, contrary to the Criminal Code. 

The male is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice on this date for a bail hearing to answer to these charges.
