THUNDER BAY -- Charges have been laid against the driver of a truck involved in a collision on Clarkson Street last weekend.

On Jan. 31, a 52-year-old male driver crashed into a tree on the north-side street.

He has been charged with using a telecommunication device while driving and failing to provide proof of insurance when asked by a police officer.

Emergency crews were called to the scene, directly across the street from Hammarskjold High School and St. Pius X School, at about 4 p.m. last Saturday and found the single-vehicle with significant front end damage and debris scattered across the sidewalk.

The man was taken to hospital by ambulance and was said to have suffered from a head wound.
