Driver of crash charged with assault, used car as weapon

A relatively minor car crash turned into a serious investigation when police learned the driver had used the car as a weapon in an assault.

THUNDER BAY -- A 28 year-old man has been charged after a motor vehicle collision on the south side of the city. 

It happened at about 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning on Donald Street at Cherrydale.

Officials with the Thunder Bay Police say three vehicles were involved, and although it was a minor collision, three charges were laid.

One of the drivers was charged with assault with a weapon, the weapon being the vehicle, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and taking a motor vehicle without consent.

There were no injuries and the investigation is on-going.
