THUNDER BAY – A driver involved in a Lappe crash that claimed the life of a 28-year-old motorcyclist will spend four years behind bars.

Randall Nault, who previously pleaded guilty to dangerous operation of a motor vehicle for the August 2017 crash that killed Nicholas Berardi, was sentenced in a Thunder Bay courtroom earlier this week.

On July 31, 2017, Nault was driving a pick-up truck westbound on Kam Current Road when it struck Berardi’s motorcycle, which was travelling on Dog Lake Road.

Shortly after the crash, provincial police said the pick-up truck failed to stop at the stop sign.

In addition to the four-year prison term, Nault was also sentenced to a five-year driving prohibition and must submit a DNA sample.

Nault had also been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death and failure to provide a breath sample, but those charges have been withdrawn.
