THUNDER BAY — A lack of drivers means that some Thunder Bay-area school bus routes will not run during the first week of school.
Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay made the announcement Monday afternoon on social media.
Seven bus runs that serve six schools are affected as follows:
- SOUTH 13 servicing Nor'wester View AM & PM, Kingsway AM & PM and Westgate PM
- SOUTH 74 Accessible Bus servicing St. Patrick AM & PM, St Elizabeth AM & PM, Sherbrooke AM & PM, Kingsway AM & PM
These routes will not be in operation Tuesday, Sept. 7 through Friday, Sept. 10.
On Tuesday morning, STSTB updated the cancellation list to include NORTH 78 servicing La Verendrye AM & PM, Franco-Superieur AM & PM, and St. Bernard AM & PM.
It said these cancellations are for Tuesday, Sept. 7 "due to no driver available."
The school bus transportation consortium said it regrets the inconvenience the cancellations are causing.
It advised parents and students to check daily for updates https://ststb.ca/bus-status or download the Bus Status App to mobile devices to receive push notifications on bus-specific delays and cancellations throughout the school year.
In September 2020 the new school year began with 12 routes out of service due to a driver shortage.
NOTE: This story has been updated to include additional cancellations announced Tues. morning
