Drug bust leads to city’s first known bath salts seizure

Police seized a variety of drugs, including bath salts, following a Heron Street drug bust Wednesday.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers searched the home on the 100 block of Heron Street on April 24. That search led to the seizure of 73 grams of marijuana, 18 Oxycodone pills, four grams of magic mushrooms, six milligrams of Hydromorphone and about 25 grams of MDPV-Bath Salts.

Police estimate the street value of the drugs seized could amount to $4,300.

Police also seized $5,600 in Canadian currency.

Jareth Giacomo Lico, 32, of Hamilton, Ont. faces the following charges:

  • Possession of Psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Bath Salts for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Oxycodone for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession of Marijuana for the purpose of trafficking
  • Proceeds of crime

 

Lico was held in custody and had a court appearance on Wednesday. He was remanded into custody and will appear in Thunder Bay court Monday.

Police say this is the first known seizure of bath salts in the city.

Police also believe that bath salts may have contributed to two known local deaths.
