Drug bust made at local hotel

Worker tips police off about drug stash allegedly found in tenant's room.

THUNDER BAY -- A 28-year-old man is behind bars after policed seized marijuana, cocaine and $102,000 in cash after executing a search warrant at a local hotel.

Thunder Bay Police said they were searching a room after receiving a tip from a hotel employee and found $95,000 in cash and small quantity of pot. During the search the room’s tenant returned and another $7,000 was recovered, along with $700 in cocaine and more marijuana, with an estimated street value of about $200.

The suspect, who appeared in court and has been remanded into custody at the Thunder Bay District Jail, was charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
