Drug trafficking charge withdrawn against man accused in motel murder

Denis Terry Bernard is charged with second-degree murder in connection with a homicide that left a 29-year-old B.C. man dead at a local motel in May 2020.

THUNDER BAY — A Thunder Bay man charged with second-degree murder in connection with a homicide in the city from last summer had a drug trafficking charge withdrawn on Monday.

Court documents show one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking against Denis Terry Bernard was withdrawn on April 12. The charge was initially laid in May 2019 by city police.

Bernard also faces a murder charge in connection with the death of a B.C. man from May 2020.

Thunder Bay police were called to the Midtown Inn on May 30, 2020, after receiving reports of a person in medical distress. First-aid was performed on the victim by paramedics on scene but the victim later died in hospital.

Bernard is scheduled to appear in court next on May 13.
