Dryden looking to deal with financial strain

The City of Dryden is taking steps toward dealing with its ongoing financial turmoil.

The City of Dryden is taking steps toward dealing with its ongoing financial turmoil.

Dryden’s city council voted in favour of issuing a request for proposal that will call for consultants to conduct a comprehensive core service and operational review.

The review is to include input from staff, city residents and the business community.

Council says it wants to have the consultants final report and recommendations prior to commencement of its 2014 budget deliberations.

Dryden has seen a significant reduction in its tax base in recent years, including the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation ruling that reduced the assessed value of the Domtar Mill from $50 million to just $14 million.

The move has chopped tax revenue's by a million dollars a year.
