BARREN LAKE, Man. – Two Dryden residents died on Sunday, the result of a two-vehicle collision in Manitoba’s Whiteshell Lake Provincial Park.

According to a release issued by the RCMP, a 54-man and a 17-year-old male were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say their initial investigation shows an eastbound vehicle stopped abruptly while traveling on Highway 1, near Barren Lake, Man., at about 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, leading a semi-truck driver traveling in the same direction to swerve into the westbound lane, where the vehicle collided with a pick-up truck carrying the two victims.

Both vehicles left the highway.

The truck driver, a 22-year-old from Mississauga, and his passenger, a 28-year-old from Brampton, Ont., sustained minor injuries.

Falcon Lake RCMP continue to investigate, with the assistance of a forensic collision reconstructionist.
