The Dryden Police Association hopes it can stop the closure of the Police Communications Centre in that community.
The Dryden Police Board last week announced that it would shut down the communication centre as a cost-saving measure.
The centre has nine full-time and four part-time employees, and is slated to close in March. All 9-11 call answering would then be contracted out to the Owen Sound Police Service.
The Police Association, which represents front-line officers and civilian staff, says they were never consulted on what they call an "extremely drastic move.”
They say it has the potential to affect the entire area, and they wonder if people in Owen Sound have ever heard of Dryden.
The association is calling for support from the public to write letters to stop the move. And if that doesn't work, they want Dryden Council to ask for an OPP costing, in order to keep jobs in the Northwest and not in Owen Sound.
