The construction of a new District Social Services Administration Board building is anticipated to begin next month.
On Friday, officials with the DSSAB announced Friday that they have awarded the tender for the construction of their new building at the corner of Arthur and Brodie Streets to Finn Way General Contractors.
The total cost of the new 54,000-square foot facility is pegged at $11.6-million, nearly $1-million below an earlier estimated cost. DSSAB officials say the new site will provide a one-stop shop approach, and contribute to the revitalization of the south core.
Thunder Bay DSSAB CAO Mary Lucas said the project is expected to wrap up in late 2011 or early 2012.
One of the more unique features of the building will be solar panels on the south side.
The DSSAB will be selling the power generated by the solar panels back onto the grid.
