THUNDER BAY – The District of Thunder Bay Social Services Board says essential core services will continue during the coronavirus outbreak.

However, starting on Wednesday, office hours are being shortened. The public will be allowed in from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As well, the number of phones and computers will be limited in an effort to comply with social distancing guidelines.

The organization’s Schreiber office will be closing.

In a release issued on Tuesday morning, the TBDSSAB said essential services including the issuing of social assistance payments and new applications for programs – although it’s strongly recommended this be done by phone.

Inquiries and applications are also requested to be done remotely.

Payments will be accepted, but where possible, should be made electronically or by mail.

Also, community housing properties will continue to be maintained and health and safety issues will be addressed.

“We continue to prioritize the safety of the people we serve, our staff and our communities while maintaining essential services during this serious pandemic,” says TBDSSAB CAO Bill Bradica, in a statement.

“We are asking our communities to help us limit exposure to COVID-19 for vulnerable people.”

Anyone needing TBDSSAB assistance is asked to phone 766-2111 or 1-877-281-2958 (toll-free).

Further updates will be posted regularly to the TBDSSAB website at www.tbdssab.ca.
