NIPIGON, Ont. – Nipigon e-biker faces impaired driving charges after OPP receive complaints of impaired driving.

According to a release, Ontario Provincial Police received a complaint on Aug. 7 around 3:24 p.m. of an intoxicated driver operating an electric bike in Nipigon.

Police say upon speaking to the driver, officers determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol.

The driver failed the roadside test and was arrested and transported to the Nipigon OPP detachment for further investigation.

The driver, a 56-year-old of Nipigon, has been charged with operating a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of blood alcohol content.

Police want to remind drivers that although e-bikes do not meet the definition of a motor vehicle under the Highway Traffic Act, they are considered motor vehicles under the Criminal Code and subject to Criminal Code provisions.
