The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is advising residents that the Ministry of Health has reported four cases of E. coli in Ontario associated with a specific brand of burgers.

As of Friday morning, none of the cases had been reported in the Thunder Bay area.

The product recall is for the four-ounce, 20-pack boxes of Leadbetters Cowboy Beef Burgers sold between Aug. 12 to the 21. The ministry is also aware of a Canadian Food Inspection Agency recall of Leadbetters Cowboy Beef Burgers in 2.27 kilogram, or five pound, cartons containing 20, four-ounce burgers. Those packages contain the UPC 8 73587 00003 5.

If you have this product you are advised to not eat the burgers and to discard it.
The Health Unit says people who may have consumed contaminated burgers and have developed symptoms of E. coli infection should seek medical attention immediately.

People in the Thunder Bay District who have consumed the contaminated product are urged to call the Environmental Health Program at 807-625-5935.
