SHUNIAH – A late-model car was destroyed Friday in an early morning fire that could have been much worse, fire officials say.

Shuniah Fire Chief Blair Arthur said the homeowner phoned to say he saw the car in flames, adjacent to the family’s lakefront home.

A neighbour was roused and with a truck and chain, they managed to pull the vehicle away from the home.

The flames were knocked down by the first fire crew to arrive on the scene, shortly after midnight.

Faulty block-heater wiring is believed to be the cause of the fire.
