THUNDER BAY -- A woman was taken to hospital early Sunday morning for smoke inhalation after her Strand Avenue home caught fire.
Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue responded to a structural fire around 5:40 a.m. to find smoke and flame billowing from the rear of the single-storey home.
Having been alerted by smoke alarms, the residents escaped the home and fire crews brought the blaze under control quickly.
A fire department release described the damage to the home as "extensive" and expressed the occupants have aranged alternate accommodations. The health status of the woman who was taken to hospital is still unclear.
The fire is not deemed suspicious.
