Those looking for a way to give back to the planet found their way to the waterfront this weekend.
The Citizens for a Sustainable Planet organized the Mother Earth Day Festival at the Baggage Building Arts Centre Saturday as more than 30 environmental organizations filled the venues two floors with booths, activities and speakers to celebrate Earth Day.
“I think it’s part of a movement frankly of people who care about ecology and the environment who have grandkids and children and worry about the future,” CUSP’s Peter Lang said. “We want to be together.”
“We all work together in the same direction to make our planet a better planet.”
The event hosted a bunch of activities for children. And for the adults, discussions on tap included everything from food security to the environmental impact on the Ring of Fire. While in the past Earth Day would be an opportunity for one or two organizations to start a conversation, the well-attended festival allowed for everyone to get together.
“We have to be aware of those things. We have to do something about it and we can,” Lang said.
