THUNDER BAY – Avista Realty Group Ltd. Held its second annual Earth Day event at its sales office to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday.
Emily Tenhave, office administrator, said that the goal of the event is to bring the community together on Earth Day and bring any waste, donations, shreddables, to get ready for spring.
“I know it's snowing out today but hopefully we can get ready for the spring thaw and also support local businesses,” she said.
“We're supporting the Lakehead Conservation Authority and the Adelaide Butterfly Garden. Any donations are welcome to them and we're also giving free milkweed away from the Adelaide Butterfly Garden for the first 100 people that come.”
In exchange for a donation to one of the two organizations being supported, the event provided amenities for those in attendance including secure shredding by Enviroshred, a donation bin for recycled goods such as clothes and household items for Twice as Nice, and a dump bin for waste or debris which was provided by Norwest Bins.
“We wanted to give a chance to the public to come out and support these local businesses that were donating to and just give them the chance to clean out their homes and get ready for spring,” said Tenhave.
Avista Realty Group Ltd. Plans to hold the Earth Day event annually and Tenhave encourages residents to support the Lakehead Conservation Authority and the Adelaide Butterfly Garden if they were unable to attend the event.
“They could go out to the actual business friends themselves and show their support through that,” she said. “I know the Adelaide Butterfly Garden offers a lot of different products.”
