Firefighters descended on an East End home Monday afternoon, battling a garage and vehicle fire that sent smoke billowing throughout the neighbourhood and beyond.

Police quickly extinguished the blaze that engulfed a car parked beside a pair of garages off an alleyway off Christie Street.

Flames could also be seen from the roof of one garage, while firefighters appeared to be tackling another fire in the other structure.

Firefighters on scene said it was early in the investigation and too soon to tell whether anyone has been hurt or what caused the fire in the first place.
