THUNDER BAY -- In an effort to give back to the community the way the community gives to local business, more than 70 pizzas were donated to the Shelter House.

On Monday, Eat Local celebrated a record week by preparing and delivering 74 pizzas to the Shelter House, enough to feed about 200 people.

CEO Jim Stadey said Eat Local had their busiest week last week since opening on Red River Road.

“We decided the best way to celebrate is in the way we normally do with a big donation,” Stadey said.

“We wanted to do that down at the Shelter House and give something back to the community.”

Stadey said being deeply involved in the community is why they created Eat Local in the first place.

Community engagement is where their passion shines and Eat Local officials believe instead of spending a lot of money on advertising dollars it makes more sense to connect with the community.

“We have a responsibility to give back, so if we are doing well we want to make sure everyone else is taken care of…it’s the most important thing.”

The company donates to the community anytime they are in a position where they’ve achieved a bench mark.

They donate quite frequently to Science North, Evergreen, Big Brothers Big Sisters, schools, churches, community groups and youth groups.

Stadey said they donate anywhere they can access youth and families who could use something to eat.

“There’s lots of people, businesses and agencies in Thunder Bay that give back on a regular basis and we love being part of that,” he said.

“Thunder Bay has a big heart and takes care of its own.”
