Community Spokes providing hands-on experience with bike mechanic workshops

Workshops of varying skill levels are available from April to August

THUNDER BAY – EcoSuperior and Community Spokes are excited to once again partner together to bring the second season of their Bike Mechanic workshops so that city cyclists are prepared to hit the roads of Thunder Bay.

“We have a series of workshops happening from now until August. We have beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert skills,” said Kelsey Agnew, active transportation program coordinator, EcoSuperior.

“Today we’re focusing on things like patching a tire, adjusting seat height and angle, taking off pedals, cleaning your chain.”

The Bike Mechanic Workshops are subsidized by the city of Thunder Bay and support cyclists who ride for enjoyment or for transportation.

“These workshops are obviously for people who have a bike, a loved bike, and want to learn more. It doesn’t matter how much knowledge or skills that they have. And they’re really good for individuals who need some accountability to learn these skills,” said Agnew.

“So you can come to Community Spokes at any time and just try to figure it out yourself, but these workshops are designed to take what you can learn here and make it very focused, make it accountable so you show up for a designated time.”

Attendees build their do-it-yourself skills in the Community Spokes repair space to keep them on the road and riding smoothly.

“By popular demand, we are adding skills-based bike repair workshops to our collection of DIY service,” said Ian Cameron, Community Spokes.

Workshops of varying skill levels are available from April to August. EcoSuperior and Community Spokes encourage everyone to come out, get their hands dirty, and get out cycling.

Registration is open at ecosuperior.org.
