THUNDER BAY – EcoSuperior Environmental Programs, Gateway Casinos, and Diabetes Canada have teamed up to host a free public event on September 21, 2019 to recycle electronic waste and collect used clothing donations.

This event, held in partnership with Ontario Electronic Stewardship, allows members of the community to safely and responsibly dispose of electronic waste – including computers and peripherals, televisions, cell phones, image, audio and video players and recorders - free of charge. EcoSuperior Environmental Programs and Bin There Dump That have hosted e-waste collections since 2010 and have diverted over 130,000 pounds of potentially toxic e-waste from local landfills!

E-waste contains mercury, arsenic, lead, cancer-causing dioxins and a host of other harmful substances. Our municipal landfill isn’t designed to contain these hazardous metals and chemicals, which can leach into local water supplies. Taking e-waste to a collection event or collection depot ensures that the materials are managed in a safe and environmentally sound manner.

Used clothing donations will be collected by Diabetes Canada and helps to support research and advocacy for more than 11 million Canadians living with Diabetes and prediabetes.

“We are happy to be partnering with Diabetes Canada for this collection event,” says EcoSuperior Program Coordinator, Aynsley Klassen. “When you are cleaning out your closets for old electronics, it makes sense to clear out unwanted clothing at the same time. One drop off location makes it really easy to support two local organizations and the environment all at the same time,” Klassen adds.

This is a fundraising event that will support EcoSuperior to continue working to build a healthy future for people and the planet.  Ontario Electronic Stewardship will make a donation to EcoSuperior Environmental Programs for the volume of materials collected.  All used clothing donations help to support the charitable initiatives of Diabetes Canada. Any questions regarding this event can be directed to Aynsley at 624-2143.

WHEN: Saturday, September 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
WHERE: Cumberland St. parking lot of Gateway Casinos (Cumberland St. between Ambrose St. and Pearl St.)
