Eight new COVID-19 reported by TBDHU

In the past 10 days, 11 of 91 cases are directly related to travel outside Northwestern Ontario, a 12 per cent share of the total.

THUNDER BAY – Another eight cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the District of Thunder Bay.

The added cases increases the total number in the district to 697 since March, with 590 of those cases considered resolved at this time and 23 deaths.

Two of the eight cases are from travel outside Northwestern Ontario, according to numbers provided by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit.

Over the past 10 days 11 of the 91 reported cases have been travel-related, a 12 per cent share.

Of the eight new cases, four are from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas, one related to the outbreak at the Thunder Bay District Jail, while two are from district communities and two live in First Nations communities, where there have been 23 cases reported since April 6. 

Three patients remain in hospital, with two of those in the intensive care unit.

In related news, Soutbridge Roseview nursing home is down to two active staff cases, four fewer than reported on Wednesday. Twenty-one residents have died of COVID-19 since Nov. 28.
