KENORA, Ont. -- The Experimental Lakes Area near Kenora is getting a financial boost from some wealthy benefactors.
Winnipeg's Gail Asper and Michael Paterson have announced they will match up to $1 million worth of donations to the ELA freshwater laboratory.
Asper is the president of the Asper Foundation, and Paterson, her husband, has been a research scientist at the ELA since 1992.
The research site is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year.
The matching grant will go toward establishing an endowment fund, to secure the next 50 years of the site.
The couple and their family have now donated $2 million to date to support the ELA.
