THUNDER BAY – Construction on Lakehead Public Schools new elementary school is set to restart on Monday.

The board on Friday announced that changes to provincial regulations surrounding construction to Ecole Elsie MacGill Public School during the COVID-19 pandemic mean the work will be allowed to resume after about a six-week hiatus.

“The province of Ontario announced today that by following the proper health and safety guidelines, an expanded list of essential construction projects will be permitted to begin operations on Monday, May 4, 2020," said principal Heather Harris in a release issued by the board.

“We are pleased to confirm that construction will resume at École Elsie MacGill Public School on Monday. We will be working with our contractors to determine the impact that the shut-down has had on the construction schedule, and will continue to keep you up-to-date through our school and school board social media channels.”

The school is set to open in September, replacing the soon-to-close Edgewater Park and Agnew H. Johnston public schools.
