THUNDER BAY -- The elementary school track meet scheduled for Tuesday has been postponed because of smoky air conditions.
The Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board issued a Facebook post announcing the cancellation, adding they hope to hold the event on Thursday at Fort William Stadium, if conditions have improved at that time.
"The health and safety of our students and staff are our top priority and unfortunately, there is a very high health risk for strenuous activity outdoors," reads the post.
The event draws hundreds of students each year.
Environment Canada has issued an air quality statement for the city of Thunder Bay, due to smoke from wildfires west of the city.
